EV Charger Installation – Colorado Springs

Thinking about adding an EV charger at home? Before you buy the charger, you’ll need the right outlet and power to run it safely and reliably. That’s where we come in.

At Gaddie Electric, we specialize in installing dedicated outlets specifically designed for EV charging stations. We don’t sell chargers — instead, we make sure your electrical system is ready for the one you choose.

Here’s how it works (and always with a free quote):

  1. Evaluation: We check your electrical panel to see if it has the power capacity and space for the breaker your charger requires.

  2. Planning: If your panel is full or underpowered, we’ll provide options such as adding a subpanel or upgrading service.

  3. Installation: We install a dedicated EV outlet using manufacturer-approved, code-compliant materials.

  4. Permits & Inspections: We handle the details — pulling permits and scheduling inspections with your local building department.

  5. Peace of Mind: Your new outlet will be up to code, safe, and ready for your EV charger to plug in.

⚡ With Gaddie Electric, you’ll get clear communication, honest pricing, and work that’s built to last.

Types of EV Chargers

There are three types of EV Chargers:

Level 1 EV Chargers use standard 120-volt outlets. If you have an outlet outside your home you can run the power cord that came with your car from the outlet to the car to charge it. But, Level 1 chargers are the slowest of the three chargers. Starting with an empty battery, it can take 11 to 20 hours to completely recharge the battery and because the charger only delivers 1.2 kW to the car, the driving range comes out to 4 miles per hour charged. So, best case scenario if you charged for 20 hours and the battery is full, you can go approximately 80 miles.

Level 2 EV Chargers connect to an outlet or hardwired unit that is wired to a 208-240v power source and a dedicated circuit. They deliver between 6.2 and 19.2 kW, take 4-8 hours to charge from empty, and they provide, on average, 32 miles per each hour of charge. Compared to the Level 1 at 4 miles per hour of charge time, the Level 2 charger allows your car to drive 70% further.

Level 3 EV Chargers use DC fast charging. They are most suitable for commercial and public spaces because their requirements are considerably greater. Level 3 chargers can charge a battery to 80% of capacity in about 20-30 minutes. On a full charge, you can go approximately 250 miles (this is dependent on the car and battery).

What Does It Cost To Install an EV Charger?

The cost to install an EV Charger depends on whether your existing electrical panel can accommodate the load and the distance from the electrical panel to where the charger will be installed.

When you call us for a price quote, we will ask you to text a picture of your electrical panel and ask where you want to install your charger in relation to the electrical panel.

Once we receive the picture of the electrical panel, we will assess it to determine if it can handle the additional load of the EV charger. If the panel is only 100 amps or doesn’t have sufficient capacity, an upgrade may be required to accommodate the charger safely.

The ideal location for the charger is within 10 feet of the electrical panel to minimize the length of the wiring run.

As long as the charger installation is within 10 feet of the panel and the electrical panel does not require an upgrade, the cost to install an EV charger is $875. Installation includes adding a new breaker in the main panel or existing sub-panel, running the wire from the breaker to a new special outlet, and connecting the charger to the outlet.

Additional Installation Costs

Additional installation costs occur if:

  • the installation location is more than 10 feet away from the electrical panel;
  • you have a 100 amp electrical panel and we determine it needs an upgrade; or
  • your existing panel cannot accommodate the EV Charger and needs an upgrade.

High Quality as Always

Gaddie has been our electrician of choice for many years. Recently they installed a 2nd car charger in our garage. The work was done with high quality as always. While the electrician was here, he also troubleshot and fixed an issue with our kitchen outlet that was causing our dishwasher to intermittently stop working. Will definitely call Gaddie Electric the next time I need an electrician.
