LICENSING, TRAINING & INSURANCE

Electrical work impacts safety, property, and long-term reliability. In Colorado, licensing, training & insurance requirements exist to protect homeowners and ensure work is performed legally and correctly.

The Training Behind a Licensed Electrician in Colorado

  • Apprentice Electrician

Apprentices begin their careers by registering with the State of Colorado and working under direct supervision. This stage involves thousands of hours of hands-on training focused on safety, tools, electrical theory, and job-site practices.

  • Residential Wireman

To earn a Residential Wireman license, an electrician must complete 4,000 hours of documented residential electrical experience and pass a state licensing exam. This license allows independent residential electrical work.

  • Journeyman Electrician

Journeyman Electricians complete 8,000 hours of supervised electrical work and 288 hours of formal classroom education, followed by a comprehensive state exam. This level represents a combination of real-world experience and technical education.

  • Master Electrician

A Master Electrician holds the highest level of licensure in Colorado and is responsible for system design, supervision, and overall code compliance. This level typically reflects 10,000+ documented hours of experience and successful completion of the Master Electrician exam.
